The bloodbath on Wall Street began with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the sale of Merrill Lynch ¡ª two of the world¡¯s biggest investment banks with combined assets of $1.5 trillion ¡ª and a US government bailout of American Insurance Group (AIG), the world¡¯s biggest insurer. On Sunday, the landscape of Wall Street was fundamentally altered with investment banks Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs converting themselves into traditional bank holding companies.
